The Lore of KittehCoin
Back in 2013, long before meme coins became a mainstream category and while Dogecoin was still brand new, users on the BitcoinTalk forum launched a light-hearted cat-themed cryptocurrency as its natural counterpart. And so: the original first catcoin — Kittehcoin | Meow — was born.
(Roughly 16 hours before the coin later marketed as "catcoin".)
On December 23, 2013, at 06:21:24 UTC, KittehCoin's genesis block was mined. The embedded message read:
"ICanHazKitteh at epoch 1387779684. Meow. Now pet me."

Cobie (Head of trading products at Coinbase) named catcoin his favourite memecoin in 2014, and since that date, he has never bagworked something similar with more conviction than Kittehcoin.

In 2026, the name and spirit of Kittehcoin returned as a memecoin on the Base blockchain under the same ticker $MEOW. This version revives the original 2013 lore, including its status as the first cat coin.
@kittehcoinorg secured the domain kittehcoin.org and launched a community forum styled after the old BitcoinTalk — called "Kittehtalk".
